Proceed to the snow monkey hot spring on foot through a beautiful forest and enjoy miraculous views of monkeys in the hot spring pond. Some of Japan’s most photogenic residents spend their days soaking in the natural hot springs of the snowy Japanese Alps. These are Japanese white macaques, more popularly called snow monkeys. Return to Nagano to see Zenkoji-Temple, which enshrines images of the Amida Buddha. The main image was created in India and introduced into Japan in 552AD. Dinner is not included.

Depart to Shirakawa-go with your English-speaking guide by private coach. This region was declared a world heritage site in 1995. It is famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses. The roofs, made without nails, provided a large attic space used for cultivating silkworms. Lunch at a local restaurant. Explore Takayama on foot. Due to its previously inaccessible location nestled high in the mountainous Hida alpine region, this beautifully preserved old town was cut off from the rest of Japan, allowing it to develop its own unique culture.
