Day 2 OSAKA – HIMEJI – KURASHIKI – HIROSHIMA
HIROSHIMA

Meet with your English-speaking guide and ride the Shinkansen train from Shin-Osaka to Himeji. Luggage is forwarded to hotel in Hiroshima separately.

Stop at Himeji castle, the famous many-tiered white castle, acclaimed as Japan’s most beautiful and complete historic citadel, known as the White Egret.

Visit a sake brewery and Lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer by private coach to Kurashiki, a beautiful old canal town.

Ferry to the island of Miyajima and visit the sanctuary of Itsukushima shrine, whose colourful pavilions seem to be floating on the water of the Inner Sea.

OSAKA

Start with an English-speaking guide for a tour of Nara by private coach.

We visit: Todaiji temple, famous for hosting the biggest bronze statue of Buddha in Japan; Kasuga shrine with 3,000 lanterns; Nara park where about 1,000 tame deer roam freely.

Return to Osaka and visit Umeda Sky Building (famous for its Floating Garden Observatory), and the sparkling district of Osaka Dotonbori. Hotel in Osaka.

Day 7 OSAKA – KYOTO – OTSU
OTSU

Full day excursion to Kyoto by private coach with your English speaking guide.

Visit: Kinkakuji temple, the “Golden Pavillion”, covered entirely with gold leaf; and Heian jingu shrine, which was built on the 1,100th anniversary of the foundation of Kyoto as the capital of Japan.

In the afternoon, visit Fushimi Inari, a Shinto shrine famous for its thousands of red Torii.

KANAZAWA

Visit Kenrokuen, rightly classified as one of Japan’s three most beautiful landscape gardens; and Higashichaya-town, a former geisha house district.

Day 9 KANAZAWA – SHIRAKAWAGO – TAKAYAMA – AZUMINO – MATSUMOTO
MATSUMOTO

Meet with your English-speaking guide and transfer to Shirakawago by private coach. You will have free time to explore the Shirakawa region, declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1995. The region is famous for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses. The roofs, built without nails, provided a large attic space used for cultivating silkworms.

Move to Takayama and walk around the old town. Due to its previously inaccessible location nestled high in the mountainous Hida alpine region, this beautifully preserved old town was cut off from the rest of Japan, allowing it to develop its own unique culture. Visit a wasabi farm in Azumino.

In the afternoon: photo stop at the Imperial Palace. Visit Asakusa Sensoji temple, the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo, dedicated to Asakusa Kannon, a short walk through the Nakamise, full of typical stalls and little shops; and, finally, Ginza, the most stylish fashion district.
